This is an event that started in 2026 and has been ecstatically well received. It's an all-inclusive signature homesteading event, open to ten women per event. Each class has twelve topics and two instructors. Each season the topics change. The goal for 2027 is to have three different seasons with two classes per season (six total). Since this event is in a climate controlled venue, it reaches an audience beyond our equine audience.
An example of topics covered include: bread-making, fermenting foods, food preservation in the form of freezing, pressure canning, and water bath canning, medicinal herbs, tallow, sewing, vanilla infusion, topical salve, business basics, and gardening for each season.
Each person that attends gets an elaborate swag bag filled with samples that we make, a t-shirt, books that Brandy Von Holten has authored, and other printed materials.
This event is taught by Brandy (Biologist) and Mrs. Mary Ella (Mennonite) or other guest instructors.
We also use the bubble gum machine for icebreakers.

Adventures at Von Holten Ranch
As a school teacher for over a decade, Brandy realized how much school districts focused on character development, but she always felt it lacked sincerity. Schools talked about character traits like honor, integrity, and perseverance, but she felt character education needed to be more authentic.
Combining her agricultural background, teaching experience, and love of horses and their century farm sparked the idea for Adventures at Von Holten Ranch. Each book highlights a horse or mule’s story from their perspective while living and working at Von Holten Ranch and teaches character education with an agricultural twist.
The books promote a positive mindset and mental health, with stories open enough for children to draw their own connections. Her goal is to do a nationwide book tour to help today's youth become tomorrow's leaders.
Brandy survived a troublesome childhood, and each book touches on a topic she personally knows children need to hear.
Horsefly's Daughter
Hard lives build champions while it tears others apart. Some go through hard events and become the next link in repeating the same shortcomings, while others break the chain. Brandy not only broke the chain, but became an international fighter and an Olympic hopeful. She survived an extremely violent childhood which resulted in four plates and sixteen screws in her face due to domestic violence by her father.
From being homeless twice, to being the first person in her family to go to college, to being in the Guinness Book of World Records, and a mounted archer from her mule, JoJo; Brandy knows that a positive mindset can make ordinary people extraordinary. Mindset is everything. It can pull you up from seemingly impossible depths and define your future. Brandy accumulated a BS in Biology with a minor in Physics, a BA in Criminal Justice, and a Master's in Teaching.
People have counted her down, but they learned to never count her out.
Eight magazine covers, a children's book series, an innovative equine event host, a multi-platform social media influencer, and taking a non-functioning century-old family farm all the way to being voted Missouri's Best Ranch is just what she does. Hard work and a tenacious spirit have led her from being the abused child to the unstoppable powerhouse.
Von Holten Ranch has given Brandy an avenue to become a leader in the equine industry and a platform for her voice of strength, empathy, and overcoming adversity. She and her husband, David, are the influential couple behind Von Holten Ranch.
Not all are born with confidence, but confidence can be created. Brandy is leading through example and grit.
Brandy's father's CB handle was Horsefly, which makes her Horsefly's Daughter. Her story will make you go through every emotion and find your own inner champion.
Von Holten Ranch
Von Holten Ranch is centrally located in the United States and in the same county as the Missouri State Fair. We host guests from all over the country and sometimes internationally.
We are the fourth generation to own the land (third generation to purchase it). The farm has been in the family since 1906.
We've won Missouri's Best Ranch for the last three years.
Between David Von Holten being a master woodworker and Brandy being a former Olympic hopeful fighter, biologist, and author, you are just not going to find anything like us anywhere else. Von Holten Ranch has been in operation since 2014. This is our 12th year. When we bought the farm in December of 2013, it had not been lived on since 1979. Everything here came from the sweat of our brow, the swing of our hammer, and the stroke of my keyboard.
Physical structures include: 125X200 covered arena, 32 electric sites, four cabins, climate controlled guest shower house, climate controlled venue with occupancy for 200, 90 covered stalls, miles of scenic trail, permanent obstacle course, mounted archery course, cattle working pens, outdoor arena, two round pens, VHR equine barn with professional office, home gym, woodworking and mechanical shop, sawmill and kiln, two machine sheds, and our personal home.

At Von Holten Ranch, we use an antique bubblegum machine for icebreakers and giveaways. It’s the chance of winning that makes it fun!
This is a great low-cost way to get exposure for your products because each product is explained before we start having individuals come up. Each person then has a photo taken with their item, which is posted on social media.
The bubblegum machine is incorporated into all Von Holten Ranch events, such as Chix in the Sticks, SMART CHIX, Country Tough Trail Versatility, United States Mounted Archery, and clinics.
